Understanding Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA)

Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), also known as EVA copolymer, is a thermoplastic material composed of ethylene and vinyl acetate. This compound exhibits high elasticity and resilience, coupled with excellent clarity, brightness, and low odor. EVA, alternatively referred to as polyethylene vinyl acetate (PEVA), holds a significant presence in various industries due to its versatile properties.

Types of EVA:

EVA is categorized based on the weight percentage of vinyl acetate present, divided into three main groups:

  1. Low Vinyl Acetate Content (4%): This type of EVA, commonly known as modified polyethylene with vinyl acetate, contains around 4% vinyl acetate. It is non-toxic and suitable for film production due to its flexibility and glossiness.
  2. Medium Vinyl Acetate Content (4-30%): These copolymers, with a vinyl acetate content ranging from 4% to 30%, are considered thermoplastic elastomers. They find extensive use in adhesive manufacturing.
  3. High Vinyl Acetate Content (Above 40%): This category contains EVA materials with over 40% vinyl acetate, known as ethylene-vinyl acetate rubber.

Applications of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate:

Apart from being a key component in adhesive production, EVA finds widespread application in various fields:

  • Medical engineering for drug delivery systems
  • Orthopedic equipment manufacturing
  • Crafting flexible and thin foams used in artificial flower making
  • Shoe components
  • Flexible hoses
  • Automotive impact absorbers
  • Sporting goods and toys
  • Molded automotive parts
  • Flexible packaging
  • Film production

Properties of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate:

  • Excellent gas barrier properties
  • Flexibility at low temperatures
  • Impact resistance
  • UV resistance
  • Excellent hot melt adhesion properties
  • High transparency
  • Low or no odor

Specifications of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate:

  • English Name: Ethylene Vinyl Acetate
  • Appearance: Granules
  • Packaging: 25 kg bags
